The Zamboanga City government is set to celebrate the 122nd Independence Day Friday, June 12, via online video streaming.
As part of the celebration, the local government hoisted flags on May 28, national flag day, at the Rizal Park fronting City Hall.
The country’s flag was first raised after the victory in the Battle of Alapan in 1898.
Citing the records, the city government said “it was after that battle, on May 28, 1898, that General Aguinaldo unfurled, for the first time, what would become the Philippines’ national flag. It was not until June 12, 1898 however, that the flag was formally presented to the people.”
