The city government of Zamboanga is planning to hold a general assembly of all barangay officials to get their full cooperation in the campaign against illegal drugs, Mayor Beng Climaco said.
The gathering, with the date and venue to be finalized, is expected to be attended by barangay captains and chairpersons of the barangay committee on peace and order.
The plan for an assembly came after a barangay official, whom Climaco did not name, signed documents on recovered items in a anti-drug operation but later retracted his statement for unknown reason.
The barangay official is now being investigated, the mayor said.
“I’d like to remind our barangay officials that we are under martial law and we are all being monitored, especially by the Task Force Zamboanga, being the martial law implementer in the city,” she said in an interview on TV11’s “Dateline Teleradyo” Thursday, January 10.
“We do not want our barangay officials to explain… por que sila ya pirma el documento y man retract later on?” she added.
Climaco said the assembly aims to guide, inform and enlighten the barangay officials about the procedures in drug-clearing operations, particularly on the parameters of declaring drug-cleared barangays.
