Zamboanga City has recorded 31 deaths from breakthrough infections of Covid-19, the City Health Office (CHO) said.
Vaccine breakthrough infection happens when a partially or fully vaccinated person gets infected with Covid-19.
City Health Officer Dr. Dulce Miravite said out of the total 402,694 individuals vaccinated as of Oct. 22, at least 1,795 people or 0.4 percent had breakthrough infections.
Out of the 1,795 breakthrough infections, 423 received their first dose while 1,372 received their second dose and considered fully vaccinated.
Miravite said there were also 31 deaths in the breakthrough infections, of which 13 were partially vaccinated and 18 were fully vaccinated.
The official stressed that even if fully vaccinated, people are advised to comply with the maximum health and safety standards to be better protected.
She said getting vaccinated will give people added protection against Covid-19 and will prevent severe symptoms and even death.
Citing data, the City Health Officer said most people who get Covid-19 are unvaccinated.
As of October 23, 2021, a total 412,027 doses of vaccines have been administered in the city, of which 240, 219 were for first dose and 171,808 were for second dose.
