The city government of Zamboanga has issued haze alert due to the thick smoke caused by forest fires in Indonesia.
The local government urged residents – particularly the vulnerable sector, such as children and elderly – to take the precautionary measures.
Quoting the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), it said that the haze is being enhanced by southwest monsoon.
The haze could pose health risk, such as respiratory tract infection and heart ailment.
The concerned government agencies asked the public to wear masks when going out.
