Zamboanga City halts tourist nature activities, small seacraft trips due to ‘Ompong’
The city government of Zamboanga has decided to suspend tourist activities in Sta. Cruz Island and other beaches in the city as well as the trips of small sea vessels Thursday, September 13, due to Typhoon “Ompong.”
The local government said the restriction of tourist activities such as, but not limited to, mountaineering/hiking, surfing, diving and swimming in Sta. Cruz Island, Once Islas, Maasin, Bolong and other beaches in the city as well as suspension of trips of small vessels was recommended by the police and the Coast Guard.
The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) has also activated the barangay DRRMCs for early warning measures and vigilant monitoring of areas prone to flooding, landslides and storm surge, it said.
“Responding agencies are on standby for any eventuality,” the city government said.
