The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has turned over to the city government of Zamboanga the first tranche of Social Amelioration Program (SAP) as part of the national government’s response amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) crisis.

The local government will distribute a total amount of P582.59 million as cash assistance for the month of April to the poorest families in the city.

President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the release of P200 billion for a two-month SAP, targeting over 18 million low-income income households or those belonging to informal and vulnerable sector.

Each beneficiary is entitled to cash assistance ranging from P5,000 to P8,000 depending on the minimum wage in a particular region.

At the same time, Mayor Beng Climaco and Vice Mayor Rommel Agan have decided to donate their salary for the month of April to help augment funds for the COVID-19 response.

The local government said the City Treasurer also informed the mayor that her office has opened a bank account solely for donations for COVID-19 operations.
