South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. welcomed Wednesday, October 7, the 480 newly-hired contact tracers for coronavirus disease cases in the province.
In the deployment ceremony held at the South Cotabato Sports Complex in Koronadal City, the governor told the contact tracers that they were hired because of their qualifications and not because of their “backers” or political affiliations.
Tamayo said he did not take part in choosing and hiring them.
He said the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) South Cotabato had the sole discretion in hiring the new contact tracers.
The DILG was earlier authorized under the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act or Bayanihan 2 Law to hire at least 50,000 contact tracers to ramp up the government’s contact tracing program nationwide.
