As a sign of thanks, a Tausug politiko invited a captain of a hundred ships aboard his humbled balangay (plank boat) which will eventually sail to China.
Former Governor and Sulu grand patriarch Datu Shahbandar Abdusakur Tan thanked Rear Adm. Rene Medina, commander of the Naval Forces Western Mindanao, for keeping peace at the southern islands.
Tan let the Navy official to board Sultan Sin Sulu, when it was docked at Maimbung port.
Sultan Sin Sulu, along with another balangay Lahi ng Maharlika, set sail to Quanzhou in Fujian province to relieve the 600 years of diplomatic relations between ancestors from Sulu and China.
Aside from this, Tan also gave a “Pis Yabit” woven cloth which is designed with intricate geometric patterns of colors. The Tausugs said each design is one of a kind.
