Iligan City Representative Frederick Siao has asked the Sandiganbayan 3rd Division to allow him to travel to Europe.
In his motion to travel, the accused assured the anti-graft court “there is no reason to fear that Cong. Siao will be a fugitive from justice and law considering that he has, in the past, faithfully complied with all the directives of this honorable court.”
Siao told the anti-graft court that he intends to make the trip from June 18 to July 9.
“Accused Cong. Siao has already made prior arrangements and commitments to travel to Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Austria to attend to business matters and for leisure with his family,” he noted.
Siao is facing a graft case concerning the alleged anomalous lease deal in 2013 when he was still of a councilor of Iligan City.
The city council in 2013 passed a resolution authorizing then-mayor Lawrence Cruz to sign an agreement with Salvatori Development Corporation (SDC) to lease a land to be used Iligan Bus and Jeepney Terminal.
The Office of the Ombudsman which filed the case said that the deal should have undergone the required public bidding.
