His province will benefit should President Rodrigo Duterte’s plan is realized.
Governor Abdusakur “Totoh” Tan II sees no problem with Duterte’s offer to Mighty Corporation executive Alex Wongchuking to just pay P3 billion as settlement to the national government in lieu of its tax deficiencies currently being probed by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).
In a press chat in Davao del Sur last March 9, the president said he is extending the offer to the cigarette producer as early settlement, instead of waiting for the total computation and the legal battle to be filed by various government agencies. Duterte said the funds will be used to build and improve state hospitals in Mindanao, including Sulu, Tan’s bailiwick.
“Duterte was just thinking out of the box in order to secure more development projects for this corner of the country often forgotten by previous central governments,” Tan said in a Facebook statement.
