Soldiers recover firearms in clash with NPA in Zamboanga del Norte

The government troops have recovered two high-powered firearms and propaganda materials after a short firefight with the communist New People’s Army (NPA) in Zamboanga del Norte.

While conducting security operation, troops of the 44th Infantry Battalion clashed with the rebels in Sitio Waloangka, Barangay Tinuyop in Leon B. Postigo town Wednesday, June 9, said Lt. Col. Don Templonuevo, commanding officer of the 44IB.

“Our troops received an information of the continued extortion activities of the CTG (communist terrorist group) in the far flung sitios of said barangay,” he said.

Firefight lasted for five minutes after which enemy withdrew to unknown direction.

Templonuevo said there was no casualty from the government side while it was yet to be determined on the enemy side.

While scouring the area, the soldiers recovered one AK47, one M16A1 rifle, and subversive documents with intelligence value, he said. #
