Soldiers discover NPA arms cache in Davao de Oro, Sarangani

Government troops have discovered arms cache allegedly owned by the communist New People’s Army (NPA) in Davao de Oro and Sarangani provinces early this week.

Soldiers from the 66th Infantry Battalion found the first cache in an isolated area of Sitio Danawan, Barangay Manurigao in New Bataan Tuesday, February 25, the Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) said.

The cache, which contains four M16 rifles, one M14 rifle, two AK47 rifles, one Garand rifle, one Carbine rifle, and two M203 grenade launchers, was discovered based on the information of the community and the confirmation of two former NPA leaders who previously surrendered to the authorities.

In a separate incident, another arms cache was discovered by the elements of 73 Infantry Battalion at Sitio Mahayag, Upper Suyan, Malapatan, Sarangani province on the same day.

The discovery of the arms cache, which yielded one AK47 and one Garand Rifle, came after the revelation of a certain alias Bagyo and alias Jun of an NPA group in Sarangani.
