Soldier killed, 9 others wounded in clash with Abu Sayyaf in Sulu


A soldier was killed and nine others were wounded in a firefight with the members of the terrorist Abu Sayyaf Group in Patikul, Sulu.

Maj. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, commander of the Joint Task Force Sulu, said troops of the 32nd Infantry Battalion engaged in a fierce clash with undetermined number of ASG in Sitio Tubig Bukayon, Barangay Pansul in Patikul Monday, June 22.

He said the encounter resulted in the death of one soldier and wounding of nine others while undetermined on the enemy side.

“It is with deep sadness to report that one valiant military officer paid the ultimate sacrifice and nine personnel were wounded while fearlessly fighting the enemies and protecting the people of Sulu,” said Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, commander of Western Mindanao Command.
