Santo Tomas pedicab drivers, operators to get insurance card – Mayor Evangelista

The local government of Santo Tomas Municipality in Davao del Norte is set to distribute insurance cards to 425 pedicab drivers and operators in the town, Mayor Ernesto Evangelista said Thursday, December 2.

The local chief executive said the insurance cards with P35,000 to P50,000 benefits cover accidents or due to unprovoked murder or assault.

“Nalipay ko kay finally mahatag na sa mga Tomasinog pedicab driver ug operator ang atong gikuha na insurance package para sa ilahang tanan. Kini kibuhat nato na programa para atong mahatagan og proteksyon ang sektor sa transportasyon dinhi sa atoang lungsod kay ako nagalantaw ko sa ilang seguridad isip naga pamasada sila sa kalsada,” Evangelista said.

This is the first time a personal insurance package program will be given to the transport sector under the Evangelista administration. The Santo Tomas LGU has partnered with the Philippine Red Cross for the transport sector’s insurance program.

Municipal Social Welfare Development Office (MSWDO) OIC Leilani Mae Rafol said the distribution of insurance cards is scheduled on December 8 at the Municipal Covered Court.

The insurance coverage of pedicab drivers and operators will expire on November 2022, she said.

Rafol added that MSWDO conducted a week-long registration of the personal insurance program for pedicab drivers and operators and only 425 manifested to avail until the last day of registration. #
