Agusan del Sur governor Adoplh Edward Plaza has been suspended for 90 days by the Sandiganbayan 4th Division due to charges he is facing concerning the fertilizer fund scam.
The anti-graft court pointed out in its resolution that the imposition of a preventive suspension is mandatory under the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.
It pointed out that the preventive suspension is meant to prevent incumbent public officials from using their position to intimidate witnesses or frustrate the prosecution.
While he is suspend, Plaza will also not receive salaries and benefits.
Plaza has been charged with graft and malversation which stemmed from the province’s 2004 purchase of fertilizers worth P9.9 million which allegedly did not undergo the required public bidding.
