Sandiganbayan orders Iligan rep Siao suspended for 90 days

Reelected Iligan City Representative Frederick Siao has been ordered preventively suspended for 90-days by the Sandiganbayan 3rd Division.

The anti-graft court imposed the suspension due to the graft case Siao is facing concerning over the alleged anomalous lease of land which is used a transport terminal.

“Taking into consideration the public policy involved in preventively suspending a public officer charged under a valid information, the protection of public interest will definitely have to prevail over the private interest of the accused,” stated the court’s ruling.

The city council in 2013 passed a resolution authorizing then-mayor Lawrence Cruz to sign an agreement with Salvatori Development Corporation (SDC) to lease a land to be used Iligan Bus and Jeepney Terminal.

Siao was a councilor at that time.

The Office of the Ombudsman which filed the case said that it should have undergone the required public bidding.
