Rescued wounded NPA child warrior dies in Agusan del Sur


An alleged child warrior of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) who was rescued and treated by the government troops in Agusan del Sur passed away Monday, May 18.

Police Regional Office 13 Regional Director Brig. Gen. Joselito T. Esquivel Jr. said Tuesday, May 19, the minor identified as alias Marjun was wounded during a five-minute firefight when the Philippine National Police (PNP) Caraga and soldiers from the Army’s 26th Infantry Battalion served warrants of arrest against Ronnie Rocero, alias Opaw, vice commanding officer of Militia ng Bayan 2nd Platoon of Guerrilla Front 88 in San Luis, Agusan del Sur Saturday, May 16.

He said Marjun was declared dead by the attending physician due to loss of blood at D. O. Plaza Memorial Hospital in Barangay Patin-ay, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.

Esquivel condemned the NPA for its continued atrocities and recruitment of child warriors in the region.

“We are saddened that the communist terrorist at all times shattered the hopes of many youths, destroyed many families and killed numerous innocent people,” he said.
