Quemado charged with graft for renting office space of bro

Sta. Fe, Leyte Mayor Melchor Quemado Sr. has been charged before the Sandiganbayan in connection with renting an office space owned by his brother in 2005.

The Office of the Ombudsman filed against Quemado a case of violating Sction 3(e) of Republic Act 3019 (Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act).

The Ombudsman recommended that Quemado post a bail bond of P30,000.

Records shows that in 2005 Quemado rented an office space belonging to his brother Anastacio for the purpose of preparing the fesaibility study on the proposed Infrastruture for the Rural Productivity Enhancement Sector (INFRES) project of the municipality.

However, the Ombudsman said that the required public bidding was not done in getting the office space and that there was no need to have done the preparation of the fesaibility study outside the town.

The Ombudsman noted that the rented office space was located 21 kilomteres outside Sta. Fe.
