Pulong gives away face shields in public markets

DAVAO CITY – The office of 1st District Rep. Paolo “Pulong” Duterte distributed on Wednesday some 800 face shields to vendors, marketgoers, and public utility jeepney (PUJ) drivers in four public markets under his congressional district.

James Michael Vergara, from the lawmaker’s office, said the markets were in Bankerohan, Boulevard, Matina, and Punta Dumalag.

“This is part of the component of the personal protective equipment (PPE). That is why we choose this to give to the vendors and market people here,” Vergara said in an interview.

He said the initiative is deemed necessary as the city enforces a general community quarantine (GCQ).

“We just try to help and provide equipment that will safely and significantly help the reduction of the transmission of the (coronavirus diseases 2019) virus,” Vergara said, adding a businesswoman named Tintin Sy provided the frames of the face shields through Congressman Duterte’s office.

Within the week, he said, the lawmaker’s office would distribute food packs to 8,598 persons with disability, 629 solo parents, 2,952 taxi drivers, 1,896 tricycle drivers, 1,220 PUJ drivers, and 87 massage therapists.

The distribution of the P3,000 financial assistance to 2,932 Muslim indigents is also ongoing, Vergara said.

He announced that the Commission on Higher Education has allotted 500 scholarship slots for qualified students in the first district for School Year 2020-2021.

“For those who want to avail of the scholarship, application forms are available at the office,” Vergara said. (PNA)
