Sultan Kudarat Gov. Pax Mangudadatu has offered an additional P200,000 cash for the identification, arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators who shot dead Leodoro “Leo” Diaz, 60-year-old tabloid columnist and radio reporter for DXMY in Cotabato City.
This raised the bounty killers of Diaz to P300,000.
Earlier, Mayor Azel Mangudadatu of President Quirino offered P100,000 bounty for the arrest of the suspects.
Diaz, also a provincial correspondent for Manila Bulletin and Balita tabloid, was driving his motorbike with his son and a lady relative when two men on separate motorbikes shot him using a .45 cal. pistol in Barangay Kalanawi 2, Pres. Quirino at 9 a.m. Monday.
The journalist died on the spot while his son Cris Jay, a photo journalist for Sapol tabloid, and his niece escaped unhurt.
Senior Supt. Raul Supiter, Sultan Kudarat provincial police director, said investigators were still trying to identify the gunmen and their motive for killing Diaz.
”It could be work related or personal grudge. We are also exploring other angles…we are following up a good lead,” said Supiter.
The journalist’s son said his father has no known enemies but admitted that he was hard hitting in his column about illegal drug activities in Tacurong City.
Supiter said the victim’s mobile phone was now in police custody which he said could help to fast tract the investigation. EOF/PNA
