Davao Del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez appears to have taken a swipe at President Rodrigo Duterte’s handling of the COVID-19 crisis as he shared the ideal traits that the next Chief Executive must have.
Alvarez said in a local radio show that the Philippines needs “someone who has brains.”
“Let’s choose a president who can handle this COVID situation. One who has brains and not just one who shows courage,” he said.
Alvarez described the Duterte administration’s handling of the COVID-19 crisis as a “failure.”
“Let’s admit it. The handling of the COVID pandemic in the entire Philippines is a failure,” he said.
Alvarez was unseated as Speaker in 2018 in a plot masterminded by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte. He was replaced by former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
