President Rodrigo Duterte may not have a First Lady, but a female politiko from Mindanao can be mistaken for the position due to the frequency of her visits to Malacañang.
Duterte on Saturday (June 17) revealed a perk that Agusan del Norte Governor Maria Angelica Rosedell Amante-Matba has earned for helping him win in the 2016 elections.
In his speech at the province’s 50th founding anniversary, Duterte told the audience they could go to the Palace provided they travel in batches.
“Patapusin niyo lang yung governor niyo kasi parang first lady na siya doon. Parang lang. Siya lang ang nagdedecide, papasukin mo si ganito ganyan,” he said.
Duterte previously shared that a female politiko from Mindanao– whom he had a romantic past with– was among the few who supported his candidacy for president.
At Agusan del Norte’s anniverary, the President took every chance to tease the crowd about his past relationship with Amante-Matba.
“Governor Maria Angelica Rosedell Amante Matba Du…,” Duterte said in addressing her, drawing cheers from the crowd.
Reminiscing about his youth, the President appeared to have made a veiled reference to his past with Amante-Matba.
“Matagal na yun, matagal na. May calio na yung puso ko,” he said.
