President Rodrigo Duterte will be supervising the progress of all development projects in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) to speed up its completion.
This was announced by Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Ismael Sueno during the sidelights of the Philippine National Police Academy graduation ceremonies in Silang, Cavite last March 11.
In a Philippine Star online report March 13, the DILG chief said this decision by the Chief Executive was prompted by his desire to improve the lives of all people in the ARMM.
“He is taking over. What he told us is he will be the project manager of the development funds and projects in Mindanao,” Sueno said in the same Philippine Star report.
The ARMM covers the provinces of Maguindanao, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi and Marawi City.
It is one of the most impoverished regions in the country, mainly because of lawlessness due to the presence of rebel groups and the terrorist Abu Sayyaf, which is involved in kidnapping and other violent activities.
