Work is now being rushed to repair the 40-kilometer Tagoloan-Talakag Highway connecting conflict-hit Marawi City and nearby towns.
This is despite concerns for the security of the workers, the Department of Public Works and Highways in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao said.
“This will connect the local Maranao communities to trading centers in Region 10. This can boost efforts to rebuild Marawi City economy-wise,” said Don Loong, regional secretary of the DPWH-ARMM.
Loong said workers are working on the concreting of the Tagoloan-Talakag stretch of the P516.2-million highway.
Once completed, the road will connect Lanao del Sur to Bukidnon and Cagayan de Oro City. It will also connect Marawi with Tagoloan and Kapai towns in Lanao del Sur, and to Talakag town in Bukidnon.
It will also halve the three-hour travel time from Marawi City to Cagayan de Oro City via Iligan City.
