Kidapawan City Mayor Joseph Evangelista led Tuesday, September 15, the groundbreaking ceremony of the P36-million Regional Evacuation Center (REC) in Barangay Sudapin.
Evangelista made the request to the national government through the Office of the Civil Defense XII the construction of a facility, which will serve as a temporary shelter for the victims of earthquake and other calamities.
Aside from being an evacuation center, the REC will also have a Multi-Purpose Covered Court and other amenities, such as electricity and water supply, the mayor said.
“Maari namang gamitin ng mga barangay officials ng Sudapin ang pasilidad para pagdarausan ng mga aktibidad at programang pang-barangay,” he said.
Barangay Sudapain is the second place in Cotabato where a permanent evacuation center will be built following the October 2019 earthquake in Mindanao, he added.
