P3.7-M agricultural aid given to farmers in quake-hit North Cotabato


The Department of Agriculture (DA) has provided P3.7-million worth of farm inputs and tools to farmers in the province of North Cotabato who were greatly affected by the series of earthquakes in 2019.

The agency delivered on July 8 to the municipalities of Makilala and Tulunan the assistance, with the budget sourced out from the DA’s Quick Response Fund, said Regional Technical Director for Operations Romirose Padin.

The official spearheaded the turnover of 100 bags of conventional hybrid corn seeds; 2,664 packs of Pinakbet seeds; 276 kilos of mungbean seeds; 200 bags of inorganic fertilizers; 70 rolls of laminated sacks; 76 rolls of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes and 150 units of water plastic drums at Sitio Flortam, Brgy. Batasan, Makilala.

The DA also distributed similar assistance on July 10 to seven barangays which were heavily damaged by the series of quakes in the municipality of Tulunan. The barangays include Batang, Padama, Paraiso, Daig, Magboc, Bacong and New Caridad.

Regional Executive Director Arlan Mangelen was represented by Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Focal Person Engr. Alkhomine Apad in the turnover of 62 bags of conventional hybrid corn seeds; 999 packs of Pinakbet seeds; 200 kilos of mungbean seeds; 40 rolls of HDPE pipes; 50 units of water plastic drums; 55 rolls of laminated trapals; 9,201 pieces of coffee planting materials and 100 bags of inorganic fertilizers, to the farmer-leaders.

“Bago po tayo namigay ng mga tulong sa ating mga magsasakang apektado ng lindol, inassess po natin mismo sa field kung ano nga ba yung kakailanganin nilang farm inputs para ma-revive muli ang sektor ng agrikultura,” Apad said.
