The Department of Agriculture Regional Office IX (DA RFO9) will distribute ₱5,000.00 cash assistance to each of the 11,604 rice farmers in Zamboanga del Norte.
The cash assistance is directed to the farmer-beneficiaries under the Financial Subsidy for Rice Farmers (FSRF) whose provinces are not covered by the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund – Rice Farmers Financial Assistance (RFFA) in the region and farmer-beneficiaries whose farm size is one hectare and below.
The farmers are also registered in the updated Registry System for Basic System in Agriculture (RSBSA) as per verification and approval by the DA and concerned LGUs. The DA shall provide beneficiaries with a direct and secure access to cash grants through the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP).
“This is a timely assistance for rice farmers to be able to buy their needed farm inputs in preparation for the wet season planting. DA provides this cash grant to farmers mostly affected by the Rice Tariffication Law (RTL), and we want to assure that the farmers’ opportunities to improve their productivity and profitability remain intact even while on a General Community Quarantine due to this COVID-19 pandemic.” said DA9 Regional Executive Director Rad Donn L. Cedeño.
Meanwhile, the DA said that 12,066 rice farmers in Zamboanga del Sur will receive the ₱5,000.00 assistance, of which 2,592 were already released during Launching of the RFFA on January 31.
In Zamboanga Sibugay province, 6,550 rice farmers are listed for the cash assistance.
