Governor Tyron Uy has urged the residents of Compostela Valley to vote “yes” when a plebiscite is held renaming the province to Davao de Oro.
This as he thanked President Rodrigo Duterte, the senators and congressmen for the passage of Republic Act No. 11267 or the Davao de Oro Law.
“Next step, plebisito na! Let’s say #YEStoDavaoDeOro kay kita Dabawenyo!” he said on his Facebook page Wednesday, May 22.
He said they were elated with the passage of the new law.
“We feel so much happiness and delight on this development. This is another victory, equally sweeter with our recent election victory. We share this victory with the people of this province whose aspiration to be associated with the greater Davao Region has truly been unrelenting,” Uy said.
“As what we’ve said numerous times, the change of name is inspired by the affinity of our people with Davao Region. This cements our place in the ever-growing Davao Region,” he added.
The governor expressed belief that the change of name of Compostela Valley to Davao de Oro would help the province in gaining more investments.
“With this development, we can now put our fullest efforts in campaigning for the plebiscite. Armed with pride and certainty, we can now say “Yes to Davao de Oro!” he said.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has yet to set the date for the plebiscite.
