The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) has recommended to President Rodrigo Duterte to declare May 3, Tuesday, as a national holiday to observe Eid’l Fitr or the culmination of the fasting of Ramadhan.
NCMF Secretary Guiling A. Mamondiong, in a memorandum, said the date was reached following the consultation with Darul-Ifta of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and NCMF Interim Advisory Group.
He said the 30th day of Ramadan will be on May 2, thereby the first day of Shawwal will fall on May 3, a day in observance of Eid’l Fitr or culmination of the Fasting Month of Ramadhan throughout the country.
“In this regard, with the provision of R.A. (Republic Act) 91 77 dated November 13, 2022, the NCMF has recommended to the Office of the President of the Republic of the Philippines to declare May 3, 2022, Tuesday, as National Holiday,” Mamondiong said.
He said Muslims all over the world observe the Eid’l Fitr Festival in three days to give ample time in celebrating the occasion together with their loved ones.
