Mindanao lawmaker urges Congress to look into EJK cases under drug war
Dinagat Islands Rep. Kaka Bag-ao on Monday urged his colleagues at the House of Representatives to investigate the spate of killings under the administration’s war on drugs.
More than a year after President Rodrigo Duterte launched his campaign against illegal drugs, the Liberal Party lawmaker said the resolutions they have filed that aim to look into police excesses and summary executions have not been acted upon.
“No hearings have been scheduled, no law enforcers have been called on to explain these incidents,” said Bag-ao, as quoted in an Inquirer report.
Bag-ao and other LP lawmakers filed House Resolution No. 242 to look into the “steep upsurge in the extra-legal killings and arbitrary or summary executions in the country.”
The Mindanao lawmaker’s appeal came after police shot dead 17-year-old Kian Loyd Delos Santos of Caloocan City in an anti-drug operation on Aug.16.
