The military has thwarted a bomb plot in Maguindanao following a five-minute clash with the members of a terrorist group Wednesday, January 9.
Major General Cirilito Sobejana, commander of the Joint Task Force Central, said that troopers from the 40th Infantry Battalion engaged two fighters of the Torayfie Group under the Dawlah Islamiyah under Salahudin Hassan in Sitio Landing Fish, Barangay Darampua, Sultan Sa Barongis town.
The soldiers recovered from the suspects three 81mm unexploded ordnances with triggering devices.
“The troops acted upon information tipped by a civilian that Hassan’s group was planning to transport anti-personnel mines from Sultan Sa Barongis to sow terror in urban areas,” Sobejana said.
Following the recent bombing in Cotabato City, he said he ordered the troops to be on heightened alert to prevent more bombing attacks in Central Mindanao.
Elements of 32nd Explosive Ordnance Disposal and the K9 team disrupted the explosive.
No one from the government side was hurt from the brief clash, Sobejana said.
