Tangub City Mayor Jenny Tan has condemned the attack against members of Team Asenso in a Christmas party Wednesday night, December 22.
Tangub City Police Station reported that while Misamis Occidental 2nd District Rep. Henry Oaminal and other PDP-Laban members and Asenso Ozamiz Local Party were holding the gathering in Barangay VII in the city, a sniper fire was heard.
Lopez Jaena Mayor Michael Gutierrez, who is running for vice governor in Misamis Occidental, was hit by the slug on his left temple and exited in his nape.
On the other hand, the bullet hit the frame of the glass door and the splinter hit the nape of Jason Almonte, who is seeking a congressional seat in the 1st District of Misamis Occidental.
Tan hoped for the healing and recovery of Gutierrez and Almonte who were rushed to Misamis University Medical Center in Ozamiz City for medical treatment.
She also called for justice for the wrong committed against the victims.
“From the time I heard about the incident last night, I have been in close contact and coordination with the Chief of Police of Tangub City, PMAJ Gerard Paul Duran, who assured me that the police are exerting all efforts in investigating and shedding light on the incident,” the mayor said.
“I deeply empathize with Team Asenso, and as a mother, I would never wish this unfortunate event on anyone, not even on rivals. Politics is never a part of the equation when the safety and security of persons are at stake,” she added.
