Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has asked the barangay officials to help the city free from communist New People’s Army (NPA) in three years.
The presidential daughter announced this during a gathering of barangay executives recently.
“We want to achieve a 100-percent insurgency-free Davao City. That is our target and objective, we need to be united and everyone should understand our way (of doing it) for the next three years,” she said.
The city government has been aggressively pursuing peace and development programs to counter and weaken the influence of communist rebels.
Paquibato district, which piloted Peace 911, was declared as insurgency-free after decades of being ruled by the communist movement, the local government said.
The city government established the Peace 911 to address issues and concerns that the public faced in far-flung villages in the city.
Peace 911 is expanding its program to 18 other barangays identified as conflict areas due to the presence of the NPA rebels.
These are Barangay Bantol; Dalag Lumot; Gumitan; Malamba; Tambobong; Salaysay; Suawan; Tamugan; Carmen; Manuel Guianga; Talandang; Tamayong; Sirib; Baracatan; Catigan; Sibulan; Tagurano; and Tungkalan.
