Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has urged the Dabawenyos to manage their expectations as she is ready to implement house lockdowns in the event there is another surge of Covid-19 cases in the city.
“Let’s manage our expectations since the surge in NCR (National Capital Region) local government units and surrounding areas, it’s not far-fetched that the UK variant will enter here since travel to Davao is still open,” the mayor said.
Davao City currently has no recorded case of the highly-contagious coronavirus strain B.1.1.7 or the UK variant of Covid-19 since the first-ever case that was reported early this year involving a 10-year-old boy.
Duterte-Carpio said the local government will implement house lockdowns and groceries will be made available for the families and residents once the city experiences another surge of Covid-19 cases.
She also said that they thought of bringing fresh food to lockdown houses so those in isolation can also buy. The Davao City Agriculturist Office, according to her, is supporting the plan as the office will also make fresh vegetables available for those under house lockdowns.
“We will try to extend or delay up to the last minute in locking down or closing the city,” she said.
She assured that the local government currently has sufficient funds to shoulder groceries of locked down families if and when a Covid-19 surge strikes the city again.
But she added that all these resources do not only cater to the Covid-19 response.
The mayor reiterated her call to the public to continue complying with the basic public minimum health standards such as frequent handwashing with soap and water, the wearing of face masks, and social distancing.
