Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio would be one of the top choices of the Filipino voters if the 2019 senatorial elections were to be held today, according to a survey.
In the Pulse Asia’s June 2018 nationwide survey on the May 2019 senatorial elections, Duterte-Carpio ranked 3rd to 5th, which has “a 46.2% level of support” among the Filipinos.
The presidential daughter’s latest ranking was an improvement from the Pulse Asia’s March survey where she ranked 4th to 7th, with the backing of 43.8% Filipinos.
Duterte-Carpio was only the probable senatorial candidate who is neither incumbent nor a former member of Congress and yet made it to the top five.
Senator Grace Poe was the top choice of the Filipinos among the 58 possible senatorial bets in next year’s polls.
Taguig City Representative Pia Cayetano, a former senator, ranked second, with the support of 55.7% of Filipinos.
Senator Cynthia Villar received 50.1% voter preference, translating to a statistical ranking of 3rd to 4th places.
Completing the top five was Senator Edgardo Angara Jr., who is supported by 41.9% of Filipinos.
In the previous interviews, Duterte-Carpio had said that she would not run for the Senate.
She had said that she might seek a re-election as mayor of Davao City or run for Congress.
The survey was conducted among 1,800 registered adult voters nationwide and with an error margin of +/-2%.
