Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio expressed hope Monday that 12 of the 14 senatorial candidates that Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) has been supporting would win in next year’s elections.
“Of our 14 candidates (hopefully) 12 lahat pumasok,” she told reporters after the forging of alliance between HNP and People’s Reform Party (PRP) of late Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago held in a restaurant in Manila.
PRP has been pushing for the senatorial bid of former Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.
The presidential daughter expressed belief that Roque has a “fighting chance” of winning in the senatorial race in 2019.
Since HNP is supporting 14 senatorial bets, she said it would be up to the voters to choose 12 among them.
Aside from Roque, the other senatorial candidates whom the Davao-based regional political party has been supporting are Senators Cynthia Villar, JV Ejercito, Aquilino Pimentel III, and Sonny Angara, Taguig Rep. Pia Cayetano, Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos, former Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., former Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go, former Bureau of Corrections chief Ronald dela Rosa, Maguindanao Rep. Zajid Mangudadatu, former Presidential Political Adviser Francis Tolentino, and television reporter Jiggy Manicad.
