Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has suspended the issuance of quarantine passes distributed by the barangay leaders after confusion among the Dabawenyos.
The local chief executive decided to suspend the quarantine passes until the city government issues an official order to unify the guidelines for the implementation of the quarantine passes.
“We decided to issue an order sa atong atoang barangay captains to cease the distribution of passes because maghulat sila kung mag order ang city government og passes. (We decided to issue an order for our barangay captains to cease the distribution of passes because they should wait for the city government to order the issuance of passes),” she said.
Several village leaders initiated the issuance of quarantine passes in their barangays as a measure to control mass gathering.
The mayor said the quarantine passes are ideal in controlling the people inside the barangays, however, barangays imposed different guidelines and different kinds of passes which confused the residents.
Duterte-Carpio said the city will not implement the quarantine passes until the city government implements an enhanced community quarantine.
The Davao Region, including Davao City, is still under community quarantine to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), she said.
