Mayor Sara bans social activities, classes, graduation rites in Davao City amid coronavirus threat

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has ordered the cancellation of all social activities and classes and postponement of graduation ceremonies until after the public health emergency is lifted.

Under the Davao City Government Guidelines No. 7 for Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), Duterte-Carpio said that meetings, conventions, exhibits, conferences, parties, and all other similar social activities must be canceled.

She also directed all schools from kindergarten to post-graduate studies to cancel classes and immediately shift to online sessions and take-home assignments.

“All recognition and graduation ceremonies should be postponed until after the public health emergency is lifted,” she said.

The mayor also asked all restaurants, hotels, and other event centers to postpone scheduled events.

The public was also advised not to attend masses, prayer meetings, and other faith-based and religious gatherings and instead stay at home and refrain from going to public places.

Duterte-Carpio also ordered all the local government department heads to create a “work from home plan” for most employees and for offices to create a minimum workforce to ensure that government work shall not be disrupted.

“All City Government offices will not accept visitors. Everyone is advised to call trunk line (082) 241 1000 or email the office you need to contact,” she said.

She added that all submissions to the city government shall be received at the Almendras gym with the designated personnel to receive and record submissions.
