General Santos City Mayor Ronnel C. Rivera has ordered the concerned agency to strengthen its programs to prevent the increasing number of teenage pregnancies.
The local chief executive made the directive during the adolescent forum held Tuesday, April 2, at Labangal National High School. Parents, teachers, principal, guidance counselors, teen support groups and students attended the event.
Rivera said the City Population Management Office (CPMO) should strengthen its programs for youngsters and see to it that the teenagers are given proper guidance and information needed to confront and combat the predicaments they are facing.
The city government said the activity was conducted due to the alarming data revealed by Young Adult Fertility and Sexuality Survey (YAFSS) last 2013 that Region XII has the most number of youth who have little knowledge on sex education, and being the 4th highest with 55.7% on ratings among all regions in the country on sexual risk behaviors of the country’s youth population.
Similar forum was held in the villages of San Jose and Batomelong, and in Lagao National High School and Apopong National High School.
