General Santos City Mayor Ronnel C. Rivera, along with the members of the Local Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF), held Monday, September 7, an online meeting with the national government officials led by Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana to discuss the coronavirus response in the city.
Also present during the virtual meeting was Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu, who vowed to help fast-tack the accreditation and issuance of the license-to-operate for the city’s molecular laboratory.
“As of the moment, the laboratory is awaiting its schedule for proficiency testing which will be conducted by the DOH (Department of Health),” the city government said.
Rivera invited Cimatu and Lorenzana to visit GenSan to personally check the laboratory and the situation in the city, particularly the Fish Port Complex, which was placed under a lockdown due to reported coronavirus cases.
Lorenzana is the chairman of the National Task Force Against Covid-19 while Cimatu was named by President Rodrigo Duterte to be the national government’s point person before in Cebu City, which recorded highest number of Covid-19 cases outside Metro Manila.
Under Cimatu’s coordination, Cebu City had graduated already from modified enhanced community quarantine.
