General Santos City Mayor Ronnel C. Rivera has underscored the need to protect workers in GenSan City Fish Port against coronavirus disease infection.
With this, the local government rolled out its vaccination program for them Saturday, July 24.
Rivera said Fish Port is one of the city’s biggest economic drivers.
Last year, he noted that the Fish Port had forced to close down operations after reported cases of Covid-19 in the area.
“Gaya ng sabi ni (Vaccine Czar) Sec. (Carlito) Galvez (Jr.), GenSan has been collecting Covid and distributing it to other areas in the region kasi nga tayo yung economic hub. We want to stop that, that’s why we personally requested the national government to prioritize and secure our Fish Port workers,” Rivera said.
The national government has also allocated vaccines for canning workers to help protect the economic integrity of the city, the region, and even the country, he added. #
