General Santos City Mayor Ronnel C. Rivera has underscored the importance of handwashing, especially in this time of coronavirus pandemic.
The local chief executive led the city in celebrating the Global Handwashing Day, Thursday, October 15.
“October 15 of each year is set to serve as a platform to raise global awareness on the importance of handwashing with soap. This year, we celebrate following the theme: ‘Hand Hygiene for All’, which calls for all to achieve universal hand hygiene now and in the future, most especially with the current pandemic that provides a clear reminder that hand-washing is one of the simplest ways to prevent the spread of any virus and ensure better health outcomes,” he said in a message.
Part of the celebration was the installation of five handwashing stations and the promotion of handwashing services in selected public places, such as the market, land transportation terminal, seaport, and airport of the city.
“As we continue to improve our health and sanitation program, I enjoin the people of General Santos City to wash your hands frequently and appropriately most especially now, during this time of the pandemic. Always remember, that it takes the right mindset and the right attitude to free ourselves from infectious diseases and to achieve a clean and healthy environment,” Rivera said.
