Mayor Inday Sara: Peace is the only path

Mayor Inday Sara Duterte today vowed to continue pursuing the path of peace and explore the right formula in order to achieve this with all fronts, including the communist New People’s Army (NPA).

In a Facebook post, the lady mayor shared that she recently visited former NPA leader Ariane Jane Ochate Ramos alias Marikit, who voluntarily surrendered to the military last month.

“Binisita ko si Kumander Marikit na kasalukuyang nakatira dito sa Davao pagkatapos mahuli sa North Cotabato,” Mayor Inday wrote as she posted a photo taken during their meeting.

“Gusto natin lahat makamit ang kapayapaan at hindi tayo titigil sa paghahanap ng mga paraan para maibigay ito sa mga Dabawenyo, lalo na sa mga taga Paquibato. Marami ako natutunan sa kwentuhan namin ni Marikit at patuloy pa natin pag-aralan ang tamang formula para sa kapayapaan,” she added.

Marikit, who is pregnant, served as the secretary of Guerrilla Front 55, Sub-Regional Committee 5, Southern Mindanao Regional Committee, believed to be responsible for various atrocities in Paquibato District in Davao City.

Prior to her surrender, the former rebel has long been under the radar of the military for her involvement in several extortion activities and armed clashes with the troops in the past. She was also affiliated to the League of Filipino Students and Gabriela Youth.

Marikit was the party wife of Rommel Tausan alias Rommel, a former commanding officer who died in an armed encounter with the 27th Infantry Battalion.
