Mayor Climaco warns Zamboangueños from holding parties, other gatherings

Zamboanga City Mayor Beng Climaco has cautioned the public against gatherings of any sort, such as parties and celebrations, amid the coronavirus threat.

The local chief executive said these gatherings are among the new sources of Covid-19 transmission in the city.

She cited that in one of the parties held recently, several guests were tested positive for Covid-19 while others are Covid suspects and are under quarantine.

The mayor directed the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and the City Health Office (CHO) to investigate recent activities to determine appropriate actions that may include temporary lockdown of buildings where the social gatherings took place.

To set an example, Climaco has ordered the department heads and other officials in the city government not to hold parties and gatherings to celebrate special occasions.

“We cannot let our guards down and we should not take the situation very lightly,” she said.

The mayor expressed dismay that some people continue to take Covid-19 for granted and disregard minimum health protocols, thus, contributing to the surge of infections in the community.
