Zamboanga City Mayor Beng Climaco is expected to lead a massive tree-planting activity on June 25 as part of the celebration of the Philippine Arbor Day.
The city government said the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR) will spearhead the activity at the Pasonanca Natural Park Watershed Area, specifically at Sitio Murok.
Dubbed as the Arbor Day na Ciudad de Zamboanga, the annual activity aims “to promote a healthier ecosystem and encourage tree planting for the protection, preservation, and conservation of the environment,” the local government said.
The event will also be participated in by the local government unit, national government agencies, the academe, police and military personnel, environmental volunteers, multi-sectoral organizations and institutions.
City Ordinance 281 declares June 25 of every year as Arbor Day na Ciudad de Zamboanga and provides for the active public participation in the tree planting activities.
