Mayor Climaco sets guidelines for Ramadan, Eid observance amid rising Covid-19 cases

Zamboanga City Mayor Beng Climaco has issued an executive order setting the guidelines during the Holy Month of Ramadan and the observance of Eid amid the continuous rise of coronavirus disease cases in the city.

Executive Order 655-2021, which the mayor signed on April 30, said to commemorate the observance of the occasions with reverential solemnity and respect, “appropriate measures shall be adopted subject to strict observation of health protocols, for the good and health protection of the Muslim populace.”

Climaco said religious gatherings, especially voluntary in nature, are encouraged to be done at home whenever possible.

When done in mosques or other venues, she said attendees shall observe a maximum seating capacity of 50 percent of the venue or less.

Climaco directed all barangay chairpersons where mosques or other similar venues may be located within their jurisdiction to prohibit the congregation of persons outside of the venues.

The EO was a result of meetings and consultations with Muslim religious leaders and concerned agencies, the local government said.

It takes effect immediately and shall end at midnight of the officially celebrated Eid Day, unless otherwise lifted, amended or superseded.
