Mayor Climaco seeks probe on social gatherings in Zamboanga City

Zamboanga City Mayor Beng Climaco has asked the police to investigate various events in the city where attendees allegedly violated the health protocols, particularly on social distancing.

She made the statement after receiving complaints from event coordinators that there were residents who “flagrantly violated” the protocol on social gatherings.

The mayor said investigation is necessary “because we cannot tolerate such blatant disregard of our Covid protocols because life matters.”

Climaco noted that Zamboanga City’s average incidence of Covid-19 deaths stood at 5 percent, way above the national rate of only 1.7 percent.

She said there is a need to conduct a fatality assessment by the City Health Office (CHO), Department of Health (DOH), together with representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the private and government hospitals associations.

“Our intention is to reduce the Covid fatality rate or zero Covid death, and unless we can do it, then we cannot at this time relax our health protocols,” the mayor said.
