Mayor Climaco, other stakeholders ink deal in managing ‘Once Islas’

Zamboanga City through Mayor Beng Climaco has signed a co-management agreement on “Once Islas (Eleven Islands) de Zamboanga” with various stakeholders.

The agreement seeks to promote “Once Islas” as the city’s premier eco-cultural tourism destination, the city government said.

It also aims for the islands’ preservation, management and conservation, particularly the islands of “Bisaya-Bisaya,” “Baung-Baung,” and “Siromon.”

“Are the islands safe? All of us have made these islands possible and I’m sure we really worked hard not only to make them safe but also made them something enjoyable and an opportunity (for development),” Climaco said during the signing ceremony.

Aside from the mayor, the other signatories were Department of Environment and Natural Resources Regional office 9 Executive Director Crisanta Marlene P. Rodriguez, Sama Bangui-ngui Tribal Leader Salam A. Buah, barangay chairpersons Jacqueline Magasa of Panubigan and Samat I. Nasa of Dita.
