The city government of Zamboanga led by Mayor Beng Climaco participated Thursday in the 2nd National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill.
As soon as the alarm siren went off in City Hall at 2:00 p.m., Climaco and the government employees and clients executed duck, cover and hold in their respective offices.
The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), in collaboration with the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) and Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), organized the drill.
The villages within the 7-kilometer radius, government and non-government agencies, private establishments, state colleges and universities and other institutions also participated by setting up simple scenarios of evacuation and rescue operation to test the preparedness of the response teams and the public, the city government said.
The drill aims to reduce injury and death in case of earthquake.
