Zamboanga City Mayor Beng Climaco led the distribution of relief goods to families displaced by a huge fire that hit Purok 3B in Barangay Recodo early dawn Wednesday, October 13.
The mayor also commiserated with the families and encouraged them to be more resilient amid the crisis.
The initial relief goods distributed consisted of canned goods and rice.
Climaco was joined by Councilors Pinpin Pareja and El King Omaga, City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) head Socorro Rojas and staff.
Initial report indicated that 523 families with 2,821 individuals were rendered homeless after the fire. No casualties were reported but damage to properties was estimated to have reached over P4 million.
Climaco has tasked the CSWDO to fast track the assessment and validation of affected families for the release of needed financial assistance. She also directed the Housing and Land Management Division to conduct tagging activities.
